ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 8.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Top Quality

I bought this computer basically for browsing the Internet and doing other minor tasks, listening to music, creating documents, watching TV and Movies etc. I haven't run any labor intensive programs yet (I've only had it for a couple days). I was going to play around with it for a while before deciding to upgrade to the 2GB RAM. So far so good. I haven't had any of the HD vibrations or excessive noise the other reviewer had. The battery life is phenomenal. I can't believe I can use a laptop this long and not have to be plugged in.

My only gripe is the Windows 7 Starter that comes installed. I have heard great things about "7" and couldn't wait to try it. For someone who likes to "play" with settings, configurations and stuff, the starter edition is not the way to go. You can't even change your desktop from the boring windows logo. I did not think about reviewing the Windows 7 Starter edition before buying. I may have to spend additional money upgrading to the Home Edition. If you are going to buy this laptop make sure Windows 7 Starter is for you.

All in all very happy with the netbook and will serve my purposes wonderfully, just wish I would have looked at Windows 7. Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 8.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Samsung GO N310-13GB 10.1-Inch Midnight Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life Review

I've looked at a number of netbooks, and most either have a dinky, unreadable screen, an unusable keyboard, or the construction looks very cheap. Samsung took these things into consideration when they created this model. The screen is sharp and bright, easy to read, the keyboard is adult sized, and the unit looks and feels solid.

I bought this unit for the wife to take to Europe so we can keep in touch without making AT&T rich, with the intention of loading Linux on it when she got back. However, Samsung's configuration of XP Home is good enough to keep using it as-is. The wireless simply works -- once you select an access point, you type in the encryption key and off it goes. The touchpad can actually be configured -- you can turn off the taps, have it disabled while typing, or even turn it off completely. And you can also zoom the screen with two fingers a la iPhone technique.

Like all OEM window loads, there is lots of extra crap installed that can be deleted to save space. It has Bluetooth and it apparently works with all sorts of things from earpieces to Crackberries. It even worked with my Bluetooth GPS, but sadly, not my iPhone. If you really don't need Bluetooth, disabling the auto startup speeds up the computer just a tad.

So far I've installed two different SIP phone clients, Open Office and Netstumbler, as well as the drivers and utilities for a Nikon point-n-shoot camera. Everything has worked without issue thus far.

Pros:

Solid unit with a unique coating on the case to make it easy to hang on to.
Wireless and touchpad drivers are not the stripped generic variety.
Battery life is pretty decent.

Cons:

AC adapter gets pretty darned hot.
Frequent / annoying pop-ups for security, driver and Windows updates.
Updates sometimes crash / fail to install.
Some preloaded software packages are only good for a certain period of time or pester you about buying the deluxe version.Get more detail about Samsung GO N310-13GB 10.1-Inch Midnight Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Samsung GO N310-13GO 10.1-Inch Sunset Orange Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life

I replaced a 15.6" Toshiba laptop with this netbook. The compactness and battery life is very nice but it took some getting used to the small screen size of 10.1". I use it mainly for web browsing on my personal wifi network which out works very well. There is a lot of settings relative to battery usage but only 2 screen resolution settings. The speed is acceptable and I liked being able to purchase a computer that still uses Windows XP. I have a Windows XP Compaq desktop that I use as my main computer. I use the Samsung GO as a secondary portable device. Its specifications are similar to other netbooks but I would say the quality is on the higher end.Get more detail about Samsung GO N310-13GO 10.1-Inch Sunset Orange Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Where To Buy ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-EU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 4 Hour Battery Life

I purchased this netbook approximately 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love it. The keyboard is big enough for your hands and the screen is bright and allows you to see all the work you are doing. I must admit, I usually use it to browse the web, check email, write in word and so on. So it is just perfect for what I do. I also like to work with the photographs I take but as of yet I haven't put a program on here to do that. I purchased the extra RAM and may I say that is a MUST buy. Just let me say buyer beware if you are buying it for another netbook....be sure to check the type of RAM your netbook uses.

We have a desktop and a laptop but I wanted something I could take with me on trips, in the car, just about anywhere. This netbook fits neatly into my purse and will be welcome to such boring long trips out of town. If you are thinking about a netbook research but this one is a great one....and you can expand the RAM to put more stuff on it. I even have a MMORPG on here and it runs fine. Hoping to put another one on it soon.

I would highly suggest this netbook..

Order ASUS Eee PC Touch T91 8.9-Inch Black Tablet Netbook- 5 Hour Battery Life

This is a great little PC. I use it for taking notes in class and just general computing and internet access. I have installed a full install of MS Office on it, as well as a number of other programs including Firefox 3.5, IrfanView, VLC, and other open source software. The touch features are decent, and the screen is very accurate. I haven't had to recalibrate it since purchase a few weeks ago.

I also like the flip feature to turn it in true a true tablet. I really like the button that allows you to turn the screen orientation. To help with text entry while I'm in tablet mode, I put the windows onscreen keyboard in the quick start menu.

The only drawback with this computer is the lag. Even during the typing of this review, it has lagged once or twice. I'll type and it will back up a little bit and then spit out all of the letters at once. I tolerate this just fine, because the computer is otherwise perfect for my uses. I also find issues with playing youtube videos, where it takes a while for the video to buffer in the computer so that the video doesn't jump. This is not an internet connection issue, but a computer issue.

One myth I would like to dispell - the keyboard is quite typable. I use the keyboard for taking notes in class, and can touch type very easily. It took a little bit to get used to the tab, caps lock, and backspace keys, but other than that, it's wonderful and easy to type on at full speed.

I purchased the package with the 2gb ram upgrade and the external optical drive, which in my opinion was worth it. The whole package was under 600 bucks from amazon - the other dealers sometimes price the computer itself at 600. Order from amazon, even if they're out of stock. They'll send you one when they get it in.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Touch T91 8.9-Inch Black Tablet Netbook- 5 Hour Battery Life.

Purchase Acer AOD250-1633 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

WARNING: netbook specs change rapidly, as do their prices. So be sure to research any changes since the date of this review.

OVERVIEW: bright, clear screen; snappy response (based on a couple of hours of adding and removing programs, after the 31 updates to Win7 first downloaded); tolerable streaming video (ran HD Apple trailers in 480 mode fine; Hulu was sometimes "choppy"; ran "Large" non-HD Apple trailers fine; ran ABC.GO.COM tv shows tolerably well; won't run Hulu in 480 mode or full screen; ran HQ You Tube fine). Smaller screen and smaller keyboard at a time when other netbooks are bumping up against super light laptops, but at least this is under 3 pounds WITH the charger. And you can't beat that battery life!

WHAT COULD BE BETTER: The 11.6" screen on some Aspire Ones is superb - more pixels = ability to see NY Times online full screen without scrolling (the 10.1" on this one requires slight scrolling, but you are only missing "ad boxes" on the right hand anyway). HOWEVER I bought a 10.1" because all the 11.6" models come with downgraded Atom processors (z520 with GMA 500 chips vs. the N280 and GMA 900 on this one). SHOULD come with 2 GB of memory to match the other upgraded specs on this otherwise upgraded version, but unfortunately, doesn't.

NOT ALL ASPIRE AOD250'S ARE CREATED EQUAL DEPT.: Danger Will Robinson! Danger Will Robinson! Danger Will Robinson! PLEASE NOTE that Aspire has put the AOD250 label on a WHOLE HOST of widely different netbooks. Things to watch out for: the N280 is MUCH faster than the N270 - not because of the processor speed (1.66 vs. 1.6, nothing!) but because of the front bus (memory) speed (677 vs. 533, a lot!). This version, as of the date I write this review, also comes with Win7 while many come with XP; comes with 250 GB hard drive instead of 160 GB on most AOD250's; has wireless N instead of G (a LOT faster, when internet cafes and other locations upgrade); has Blue Tooth; has the 6 cell battery (AND it's in the 5200 m.a. version, not the 4200).

WHAT I DID ON DELIVERY (ymmv so think before you leap:

1. BEFORE inserting the battery, I removed one easy screw from the middle back panel, pulled a couple of side clips off the existing memory module, and did a 5 minute total upgrade to 2GB of RAM. Super simple.

2. Install the battery, plug in the charger, boot up.

3. Wait for normal set up; enter minimal information.

4. Load Internet Explorer and click on Windows update - the computer will update soon on its own, but this speeds it up.

5. Installed 38 security updates and 3 non-essential updates. Note: Acer has its own update program to check for BIOS and device driver updates, a nice touch, I went in and changed the update frequency to monthly from daily.

6. Uninstalled the trial antivirus program. Which virus program you choose is up to you; I've had good luck with Panda (paid) and with AVG (free, no ads). Based on what I read since then, I decided to try Microsoft's new, free basic protection program, Microsoft Security Essentials (Google: download Microsoft Security Essentials) and quickly installed it. It's not supposed to be as up to date as some, but it's overhead is low and I have some confidence that MSFT will try to make it work well in conjunction with their Win7 patches and updates. NOTE: Security Essentials has its own Malware program which replaces Windows Defender which comes with Win7. Make sure both aren't running at the same time (make sure Security Essentials DID turn off Windows Defender).

7. Uninstalled all the junkware (trial Office, Norton BackUp, eSobi, etc.). Uninstalled all the excess MSFT baggage - Silverlight, Live Essentials. If you ever use a program that wants chunks of these, they will ask to download and reinstall and you can decide then. NOTE: you don't want tags of too many programs running in memory, that slows down the computer especially video - the "load" from the antivirus can be especially significant.

8. Downloaded Quicktime; iTunes; Flash 10 (already installed - good work Acer! - but there was an incremental update since the build they installed on my hard drive.

KUDOS TO AMAZON DEPT.: I got this overnight, with the memory chip to upgrade, for only $28. Wow. I could have had free delivery by waiting a week or two with Super Saver. And they actually got the right computer to me - given how my AOD250's variants they stock, and colors, that's no mean feat.

WHY YOU MIGHT WANT GET THE SMALLER BATTERY DEPT.: The humongous runs forever battery is fatter and heavier. Heavy, not a problem; wider not a problem; problem is, it juts down from the body which means it doesn't fit well in a flat computer slot. On the other hand, it elevates the rear of the deck slightly for better cooling.

YOU SHOULD GET THIS IF: You are cheap or on a budget or want a very light, very small, very functional computer for travel. If you write, blog, browse the web, watch YouTube, download to iTunes (250 gb helps).

YOU SHOULD NOT GET THIS IF: You want to watch Hulu in higher resolution and/or at full screen; if you burn a lot of DVDs; if you do Photoshop or make movies; if you play video games that make demands on hardware. Get the new white Macbook instead.

MY CRYSTAL BALL SAYS THESE THINGS WILL CHANGE IN ONE YEAR: Dual core Atom chips (already available); lower power consumption support chips instead of the ancient 945; better graphics chips (from Intel, or from 3rd parties, Nvidia already has the Ion); standard 2 gb with optional 4 gb; 11.6 as the "premium" netbook niche and 10.1 as the "standard" niche with small screens disappearing; XP disappears, finally replaced by Win7.

AND THE QUESTION YOU WANTED ANSWERED FIRST: Yes, Win7 works out of the box. Abiword works fine with it. Yes it is as fast, to my eye and hand, as XP. Yes, it will be supported a lot longer in the future than XP. NO, stay away from Vista even on a close out model. I had it one one netbook and had to return it, it was so slow. Win7 Starter has no "eye candy" for the desktop but it is FAST.Get more detail about Acer AOD250-1633 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Cheap Acer Aspire One AOD250-1116 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life

I've read about this computer on several websites. Amazon.com had the best price. I bought this thing on June 17. By mid-July the screen started to flicker and then died. I troubleshooted this problem by plugging it into my TV proving that it was the LCD screen that had died in less than 1 month. I used my warranty and I had to pay to send it to their service center in Texas. When I got the computer back the screen flickered the same day I got it, so I sent it back to them. The second time I got the computer back the left side hinge for the LCD screen was broken and obviously gouged with a screw driver and it was missing one of the rubber legs on the bottom, so I sent it in again....... I got it back today. Having owned this computer for just over 4 months, only being able to use if for roughly 2 months, they repaired the hinge and replaced the rubber leg with a SMALLER ONE. Now it does not even sit balanced. Very disappointed in Acer. This is my FORTH Acer computer since 1998 and am very disappointed not only in this computer but their repair service. I hope all my writing here helps someone.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1116 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life.

Buying Acer Aspire One AOD250-1738 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life

I bought two of these for two of my preteen grandchildren. They setup easily. I did have to add an external disc drive. The grandkids have used them now for about two months and are very happy. They can go online through their parents wireless setup. This seems to be a relatively inexpensive way to get a personal computer in the hands of a 1st time user. Naturally, it does not have the memory (RAM) or speed of a faster CPU, but seems very good for its limited intent.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1738 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life.

Save Acer Aspire One AOD250-1610 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I love this ruby red netbook.. It is so pretty and cute and light and works way better connecting to my wireless connection than my regular laptop. The only disappointment was finding out that it did not have bluetooth in it already. You can buy a small bluetooth device though. I finally found a carrying case online that fits perfectly. It does have a multi cardreader which you can transfer info or pics etc through from your other computers so that makes it easier to get stuff in it. I am going to see if my portable USB hard drive, which I use for backup works, which it should because the netbooks is USB enabled. All in all, this is a fabulous little netbook that you can drag from room to room and even to your bed at night or sit outside on your patio or front steps with as well as travel simply. It fits in my purse.

HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Right now

This computer comes with a built-in instant operating system (IOS) that is independent of Windows. You can start the computer and quickly bring up a simplified web browser and email tool. The WI-FI capable IOS launches quickly so email or favorite web sites are easy to check. For more operating features and printing, Windows can be launched with the usual longer boot-up time.

The IOS is mentioned briefly in HP's official product specs, but I think they could make a strong case for the value of it.

I did not know the IOS existed when I bought this, but now I find it to be my favorite feature of the machine.

My review would be five star if the operating system were a full Windows 7 instead of the somewhat crippled starter edition.Get more detail about HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

MSI Wind U123-002US 10.2-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell Battery Immediately

Did extensive research into the Wind U100, U120, and, U123 units before purchasing the U123 for my wife.

Inability to expand the U120's 1GB RAMu removed it from consideration. Yes, the U123 required "discarding" the factory 1GB stick for a new 2GB stick, but the U100 wasn't available in RED; the U123 was. If I decide to get a U100 for myself in the near future, then I have the 1GB stick expansion ready. Was fully aware of the unit's inherent tendency to tip back, so no surprises there.

The U123 allows my wife to transfer photos and video from SDHC cards, surf the net, and connect 3 USB devices all at the same time in one unit--something her old IBM T22 couldn't do without a whole bunch of external devices and cables.

Mission accomplished.Get more detail about MSI Wind U123-002US 10.2-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.

Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE010AM Obsidian Laptop with Integrated TV Tuner - Black This instant

I just purchased my Dell Mini 10 (Blue Cover) and I have to say that this was one of the best investments I ever made. If you think you are getting a high end laptop for the price of three-hundred bucks, then you are sorely mistaken. This is basically a smart phone PDA increased to the size of a ten inch screen with a keyboard attached. Most of the bells & whistles are intact.

At first it took me some time to get use to the screen. Websites are slightly altered due to the 10 inch screen, so and with the tool bar on top that includes (File, Refresh, etc) it can seem like there's hardly any room to view webpage's, but you'll get use to it. Viewing any site that you would on a regular desktop will have certain parts of the page moved around when viewing it on your netbook & this is to be expected because of the size.

I know everyone is complaining about the keypad, but it's really not that bad. It does take a few tries before you realized what works best for you. I've learned from having a Dell Studio Laptop that the best thing to do is just utilize the free space as a mouse and click. Don't bother trying to hit down on the key, but just double tap on the keypad to pick a selection. If you don't, you will find the experience of navigating through websites, clicking on hyperlinks, typing a document on word, etc to be a horrendous experience.

I seriously do not understand the negative reviews & i dont understand why everyone is having so many technical issues. I am having none at all and i had Microsoft Word installed by myself when i got the netbook, so i just don't get it!

Otherwise, if you are looking for a great small compact netbook to stay connected to the web, check email, browse a few sites - then this is the netbook for you. There isn't much customization due to the small size of the netbook that feels very light just a little under three pounds and practically smaller and skinnier then the new Twilight book. I would have it ordered it on amazon, but it was cheaper through Dell.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase because it's a great investment for anyone who needs internet access on the go. The only complaint I have is the price. I know its three-hundred, but I own a regular laptop with a 15 inch screen & that HP was only three-hundred. Sure, it was not a high end groundbreaking laptop, but it does the trick & power wise, it's stronger than the mini. I really feel the price point should drop by hundred bucks. Otherwise, this is still a great PC tool to have.

Pros:
Light weight (Less then three pounds)
Customizable Cover with different colors
Windows XP (Thank GOD - Vista is so WHACK)
Keyboard is 90% size of a real keyboard
Wi-Fi
3 USB slots
160GB Memory
1.66 GHZ
1GB RAM

Cons:
A bit pricey IMO - It really should be two hundred & under
No DVD Slot Get more detail about Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE010AM Obsidian Laptop with Integrated TV Tuner - Black.

MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Black Netbook - 3 Cell Battery Review

I bought the 8 gig SSD Acer aspire one and it was great. I just loved it. A few friends even got one after seeing mine and hearing how much I liked it.

After having the aspire one for a while I wanted a larger netbook with more memory, more RAM and more style. I bought the MSI wind along with the $13 extra gig of RAM because it seemed like it would perfectly fill this purpose. Installing the RAM was easy and the machine starts up and runs very quickly. I think it is stylish and people often think it is a Mac when they first see it. Although it is great for many applications and easy to carry every where my only two complaints with it are major ones.

First this is a netbook so the WiFi should work very well, in mine it does not. If you are not very close to a source it constantly looses and regains the signal so you can not watch videos or down load large files. This alone would make me not buy another one. I often have both the Acer and the Wind running at the same time to test their WiFi capability. The Acer almost never cuts out and can run on even a very weak signal. With a good signal the Wind will often still cut out and can barely function with or just won't detect a weak signal.

Another thing that is more personal is that the touch pad is extremely sensitive to the point that I often don't click what I think I am because the pointer has shifted slightly when I picked my finger up. I have learned to compensate for this but it is annoying and not present in the aspire one.

The reason I picked the MSI 160 gb 10" net book over the comparable Acer model was the more stylish appearance and apparent (from online video instructions) ease of RAM upgrade. In the future if I buy another net book I will stay with an Acer as the WiFi card in their cheapest net book is much better.Get more detail about MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Black Netbook - 3 Cell Battery.

Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery

I called up Lenovo and asked them about this machine's bad habit of waking up from sleep mode and running its own battery down while you're not aware. It is a chronic problem that is frequently mentioned in thorough reviews for this model.

Every person I was transferred to played stupid and acted like this problem doesn't exist. I was finally transferred to a tech support person who was willing to acknowledge that this model does indeed have a problem with coming out of sleep mode all on its own, causing it to heat up and drain its battery.

Tech support also confirmed that there is no fix for this problem, and that the workaround/remedy is to not use sleep mode but to use hibernation instead. Hibernation, for those who may not know, is a Windows feature that saves everything in memory to disk before doing a full shutdown and reads it all back into memory when starting back up. Think of it as sleep mode being transferred to the hard drive. It takes longer to hibernate and wake back up because of all the disk reading and writing, but it's actually a cool function and a good alternative. It's also still a lot faster than normal shutdown and rebooting, and still allows you to keep all programs open just like sleep mode. The biggest plus is that your battery doesn't slowly drain while hibernating like it does when it's sleeping. For what it's worth, hibernation works extremely well in Windows XP, I have used it extensively before. Same with Vista.

But regardless, the Lenovo S10-2 does come from the factory with the manufacturer's defect of waking back up from sleep mode on its own, causing it to heat up and drain its battery.

It is possible that what is waking the S10-2 up is the camera. I read a review that said that when the author disabled/uninstalled the webcam software, it improved the situation, but did not entirely solve it. If you go into the BIOS and completely disable the webcam, it might solve this problem entirely. I will try it on mine when it arrives (I bought one anyway).

So anyway, there it is directly from Lenovo themselves - they have very relucantly acknowledged to me over the phone that this is a problem with this laptop, and there is no fix - just the hibernation workaround, which for most, should be an acceptable workaround in most cases (but still a bandaid to a flawed product). I was also directly told that no fix is planned. I would assume that if they release a 10S-3, ti will not bave this problem. The S12 model, however, does not have this "insomnia/wake for no reason" problem when sleep mode is used. Only the S10-2 has this problem. It's too bad, because the S12 battery life is only half that of the 10S-2.

Would have been 5 stars if product had no defects.
Would have been 4 stars if Lenovo acknowledged problem/had fix.
3 stars because this otherwise great model has a well-known defect and Lenovo indeed knows about but won't acknowledge until you rub their noses in it.

I did not know the IOS existed when I bought this, but now I find it to be my favorite feature of the machine.

My review would be five star if the operating system were a full Windows 7 instead of the somewhat crippled starter edition.Get more detail about HP Mini 110-1127NR 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Purchase Acer Aspire One AOD250-1326 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life

I hope all my writing here helps someone.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1326 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life.

Cheap HP Mini 110-1036NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 6.75 Hours of Battery Life

What this is not...
This is NOT a powerhouse computer. This is NOT intended to be a computer where you'll be doing heavy photo / video editing.

What this is...
This IS a light-weight long lasting battery (6 real hours with the "larger battery"!) Netbook. It's great for surfing the web, doing e-mail, chat, etc. I bought it because I knew I'd be away from home for business and wanted my kids to be able to chat with me. The webcam works very well, the microphone / speakers are just fine. I haven't installed much more than what it comes with (only switched the web browser to the one I like better than IE).

I recommend this for...
- People who already have a "main computer" (laptop or desktop) and want something light to travel, with a long lasting battery.
- People who are on a budget and want something small (with "limited capabilities") for daily use.

One last note... yes, the keys are small... yes, you get used to it very quickly!

Buying Acer AOD250-1584 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

I bought this netbook as a replacement to my 4 year old Dell laptop. I didn't really need a new, expensive laptop as I primarily use my work laptop for for memory and processor hungry activities. I figured an inexpensive netbook would be a fine replacement for browsing the web, sending personal email, shopping online, hitting up facebook, etc. And so far, so good.

I've only been using it for 24 hours, but so far everything seems to work well. I am quite pleased with Windows 7 Starter as well. I am a product manager for a large software company and have used several OS version. I hated Vista and was reluctant to go with Windows 7, but so far, I am not disappointed.

Pros:
- All the features for less $ (faster processor, bluetooth, web cam, 250HDD, WiFi b/g/n, extended battery)
- Windows 7 Starter
- Color combo is appealing
- Decent touchpad (better than the D150 series!)
- Extended battery does NOT extend under the laptop, but out the back, like most laptops.

Cons:
- The keyboard is smaller than comparable other netbooks. I wish the keys were bigger. It can be challenging to type. The Dell and HP mini's have larger keys, but have the extended battery extend under the laptop. Not something I wanted to trade off for.
- The glossy case could be challenging to keep clean... not sure yet as it's only been 24 hours.

Lowest Price Disney Netpal by ASUS - 8.9-Inch Magic Blue Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life

I did a lot of research before deciding to purchase this product Disney Netpal by ASUS - 8.9-Inch Magic Blue Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life for my family. One of the reasons I bought this over the Nickelodeon/Dell netbook - or another netbook brand - was that it is advertised that the RAM can be expanded up to 2GB. Asus does not offer factory upgrades. When I got the Netpal in this week, the warranty states that it needs to be serviced by an authorized repair shop. So I called to Tech Support and asked them about the upgrade. They said they don't recommend the 2GB RAM upgrade, won't do it in their service centers, and that it would void the warranty. EVERYWHERE on the internet it is advertised that it can upgrade to 2GB RAM. Make sure you consider this before purchase. I am not really happy with this purchase. I can't even get the some of the links on the Disney site to work. [...]. is very content rich and many of the links to videos and games just won't load.Get more detail about Disney Netpal by ASUS - 8.9-Inch Magic Blue Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life.

Sony VAIO VPC-W121AX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Order Now

Sony has made a big mistake in how they have represented this net book or mini Vaio. Sony evidently can't produce a netbook style computer with competitive battery life and ship it with the monster high capacity battery that is competitive and lasts 7 hours but ruins the sleek look of the computer. Even on Sony's Web site as well as Amazon's they present this laptop in every photo with a sleek profile and a small battery that they claim lasts 7 hours.

Big untruth. Or shall we cut to the chase and say that it is a lie and deceptive. The computer arrives with the large capacity battery which is the only one that can last 7 hours and the reason it is not pictured is because this darling mini vaio looks like it has a tumor growing from it. The profile is NOTHING like pictured in all the images on both the Sony and Amazon's site.

I do love the computer itself - it is amazing and unlike some netbooks it will run more than just surfing programs and has an awesome 250gb.

This put me in a conundrum as I love the pc but hate the battery and certainly didn't want to buy another $89 battery with only 2.5 hours capacity.

Amazon in all their greatness made this good for me and are sending me the real standard battery at no cost while allowing me to keep the tumor battery for the times I need the longer battery life. It doesn't make me real happy to only have a 2.5 battery life but for those times I want the sleekness it will be perfect.

Without Amazon and their high integrity, I would have sent this back and been pretty disappointed at my time being wasted.

Thank you Amazon. And Sony - this is really a regrettable sales practice - and actually not legal.Get more detail about Sony VAIO VPC-W121AX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Samsung N130-13B 10.1-Inch Slate Blue Netbook - Up to 5.8 Hours of Battery Life This instant

Purchased this netbook from Amazon Monday evening and received it on Thursday; fast shipping Amazon. This is a super netbook for $299.99. Color is matte blue and white which shows no fingerprints. Actually like the color better than I thought I would. Build quality is solid as you would expect from Samsung. Screen is matte not glossy which I also like. Very little bloatware to remove. I bought this for my wife who travels and has to give powerpoint presentations. Needless to say she loves this little thing. It will certainly make her travel easier, as this netbook is so small and light(2.8 Lbs). It is a simple netbook; doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, like bluetooth, 1.3 camera, etc. The wifi card found my AT&T Uverse device quickly, so I was on the internet immediately. Battery life is as advertised; it took me about 6 hours to run it down from initial full charge. Wife likes the touchpad, too; I use the usb mouse. If you want a solid, simple netbook with middle of the road battery life, you will like this little gem.
Out of the box, fully charge the battery(light on left front edge of netbook will go from orange to green when fully charged). Next boot up and it will lead you quickly through windows XP installation. Then configure it with programs like you want it. Then enjoy. It is a great product and a steal at this price.Get more detail about Samsung N130-13B 10.1-Inch Slate Blue Netbook - Up to 5.8 Hours of Battery Life.

MSI Wind U100-843 10-Inch Black Netbook - 5.5 Hour Battery Life Immediately

I'm very happy with this netbook , I have windows 7 and Debian installed in the netbook , it is running very well, good performance, and the battery last about 4-5 hours , the other great feature is that I bought a 24 inches monitor and the resolution that the netbook provides the optimal resolution for the monitor which is great with 1920x1080.

The keyboard size is one of the best you can find for the netbooks, for me is still little but once you get use to it, you won't have any troubles.

the only downside is that I don't like the touchpad , but I solved this problem buying a wireless mouse.

I recommend buying this computer.Get more detail about MSI Wind U100-843 10-Inch Black Netbook - 5.5 Hour Battery Life.

Sony VAIO VPC-W121AX/T 10.1-Inch Brown Netbook - Up to 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Get it now!

I just got the brown version (with Windows 7 Starter) of this netbook a day ago and here are my initial impressions. I got this netbook as a secondary computer for when I travel. The looks of the Sony netbook is brilliant. Looks of the netbook are quite important to me so it's a major reason why I bought this netbook. The netbook is small and it blends so well with the surroundings of my apartment. The AC Adapter is small so that's good. The netbook is reported to have a weight of 2.6 lbs. I suppose that's right. I have not yet weighed mine. But the 6-cell battery is actually slightly heavier than the netbook itself. It slighly sticks down so that it elevetates the netbook from the back. So its not exactly a flat netbook. Given my relatively limited requirements (email, web surfing, watching video, limited gaming, word processing and spreadsheet) the performance of the netbook is satisfactory. The resolution (no pixel issues) and sound of the netbook is great. Watching videos from Youtube is great. However, I reckon if Sony upgraded the RAM to 2GB from 1GB it would enhance the performance of the netbook a tad. But looking at other comparable netbooks, the 1GB seems the standard. Overall, I'm happy with this netbook. This is my second VAIO (my first one was a R505-GL). I would, without a doubt, be happy to buy another VAIO model in the future.Get more detail about Sony VAIO VPC-W121AX/T 10.1-Inch Brown Netbook - Up to 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Gateway LT2030u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Buy Now

Have enjoyed my Gateway LT2030 netbook for about a week now.
Keyboard - pretty good, can touch type immediately without difficulty. Multitouch is fun, espec for photos.
Display - excellent, albeit locked into 1280x600 on the book, you can go larger with an external monitor
Win 7 Starter - I like it. setup took about 4 minutes. Saw a lot of posts about only being able to open 3 apps, but this hasn't been an issue. I have Chrome (you can have as many web pages as you want), word, paint, Win Media player, and a chess game open right now. No crashes so far. The "Do you want to let this program make changes?" on installs is more tolerable for some reason. Cloud apps are the plan. Haven't installed a lot yet.
Software - lots of gateway junk games, but Chess Titans is not included. ???? This is a miss. Can watch netflix wirelessly without lags. Basic Works, MS offerings otherwise.
[...]
I can carry this thing around the house, throw it in the car, feed my attention deficit in many new settings. Great basic tool. [...]Get more detail about Gateway LT2030u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 7 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).
